"Organisations can potentially reduce annual paper costs by at least 30% by selecting duplex printing as the default setting across the output fleet."

Source : Gartner, "Cost-Cutting Initiatives for Office Printing", Sharon McNee, Ken Weilerstein, 22 Feb 2008.

Make it easy to reduce paper consumption by deploying duplex-capable devices and setting duplex printing defaults at the network level using HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) and HP Web Jetadmin (WJA).

Here is a checklist on easy cost-saving opportunities today:
At zero investment With some investment
Q: Have you deployed default duplex printing in the office?

A: You can reduce paper costs by at least 30%(1) by setting default duplex printing:

- On duplex-capable devices
- At the network level with free software tools HP UPD and HP WJA
Q: Did you know that renewing your printers can lower energy bills?

A: Today's HP LaserJet and Color LaserJet printers and MFPs use less energy than previous models.

- Look for the ENERGY STAR® logo when you consider new products. Many HP products meet requirements for the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR® program - the most recognised symbol for energy efficiency in the U.S.
- Consider using HP MFPs instead of standalone devices to help reduce energy
- HP Instant-on Technology found in HP LaserJet printers provides up to 50% energy savings over traditional fusing, while delivering a first-page-out up to 50% faster than competitive products(2).
Q: Does your organisation have energy efficient devices?

A: Large organisations are in position to realise energy savings using the features on many HP LaserJet printers to lower energy costs. ENERGY STAR qualified HP printers and all-in-ones deliver efficiency gains over non-qualified standard models.

Q: Did you know that you can help save paper and cut costs with...

A: HP Managed Print Services (MPS), a comprehensive suite of imaging and printing services designed to help organisations meet important operational and sustainability goals. Through MPS, an enterprise can lower its costs, simplify its printing management, streamline recycling and disposal, cut its paper usage, and reduce its carbon footprint.

Pre- and post-analysis of some HP MPS customers' imaging and printing operations reveals energy savings between 30 percent and 80 percent and reductions in paper consumption in the millions of pages.
Q: Have you configured energy-saving settings across your printer fleet?

A: Tools such as HP WJA helps reduce energy use by enabling sleep and wakeup modes to be scheduled for an entire printing and imaging fleet.
Q: How can your organisation increase security of sensitive documents while reducing paper waste?

A: User-authenticated printing techniques such as PIN and pull printing, reducing the amount of print jobs that are abandoned and ultimately reprinted. These solutions also help secure sensitive information from waiting unclaimed at printers. Many HP customers estimate a 15% to 30% reduction in paper use by using pull printing.

According to Gartner "...with as many as one in ten documents sent to the printer are uncollected or sent again before collection to correct user errors, enterprises could reduce ad hoc print costs by up to 10% by implementing PIN authentication."

Q: Do you want to make responsible choices for your print infrastructure?
